Non Verbal power of Web Video

July 15th, 2014 Posted by News No Comment yet

Sean Rosensteel wrote an interesting article about the power of web video and the impact it can have on your business

Here is an excerpt – the full article can be found here

Social media groupies and web marketing nerds, this is our world.

758 million people worldwide (over 10% of earth’s total population) watched an average of 79 YouTube videos each in just one month, according to a recent ComScorereport.

While the common belief is that the power and popularity of video is created by the way it combines visual & audio messaging, the influence of video is deeper than that.

In his book Honest Signals Dr. Alex “Sandy” Pentland, professor at the MIT Media Lab, has identified four core unconscious, nonverbal ways that humans communicate with one another. They are…

  • Activity
  • Interest
  • Mimicry
  • Consistency

The most important of these that’s revealed in video is consistency. This is also recognized as fluency. His research shows that people who know what they’re doing and are truly influential have a certain consistency with their rhythm and motion. Sure, it may be practiced – but it’s honest and hard to fake.

5 Tips for Web Videos

July 9th, 2014 Posted by News No Comment yet
If you have a website, chances are you’ve noticed the explosion of web videos. What used to be a rarity with video being an expensive exercise, businesses without video on their site is probably falling behind. So how do you make your video stand out from the masses and work as your best marketing tool. And here are some tips to help you get teh most out of your web video.

#1 Have an idea what you want to achieve

Know your target audience and what they want to see. do you need to connect with your audience or are you aiming to just wants to be entertain them? Whatever your audience, keep tour web video personal. Know your message before anything else. This will help keep the filming and editing process running as smoothly as possible, saving you time and money. It is very easy to spot a poorly planned video; you’ll lose more than just brownie points if you deliver a sloppy job so keep it sharp.

#2 Short is best

The reason video marketing has such a high rate of success is its ability to capture an audience and not let them drift away like other marketing mediums that require the audience to read rather than just watch.  So keep it short, and to the point and if there’s something you really want your viewers to see, put it near the beginning.

#3 Quality & Quality

Make sure your concept is worthy of your brand.  You need to showcase your brand and show your audience the big picture, why you stand out from your competitors and what you can offer them.  A good web video gives your viewer a good reason to trust your brand.

#4 Get it out there

Don’t just leave your video on your webpage, put it everywhere you can. Tweet about it, blog about it, share it on Facebook and LinkedIn. It is all about Exposure

#5 Call to Action

Let’s be honest, you’re not creating a web video just for entertainment, you want action. So ask for it. Do it at the end, and do it politely.  Keep it short and to the point so your audience is left feeling good about what they’ve just watched, they should know who you are and what you can do for them.
